Guatemala Lachua Finca Paso Cocodrilo (1KG)
Region and country
Lachuá eco-region, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala
Story
In the north central part of Guatemala is Laguna Lachuá National Park. The circular lake is
the main attraction of the park. The water is karstic: the water has a high content of calcium, making the lake rather smelly. This explains the name of the lake: Lachuá is derived from the Q’eqchi words for ‘the putrid water’. Visitors take the smell for granted, because of the breath taking scenery and the surrounding pristine tropical rainforest. In this beautiful environment indigenous Q’eqchi families have been cultivating cacao since time immemorial. After a career at the United Nations, working as technical advisors on forest landscape restoration and cacao cultivation, Arturo and Erick decided to put their knowledge and experience into practice. They started Finca Paso Cocodrillo on barren cattle rangeland with the aim to produce high quality cacao, while restoring forests and protecting the natural environment. Finca Paso Cocodrillo is nothing less than a beautiful cacao forest, and its cacao is of exceptional quality with sweetness of fruits and some exciting alcohol and spicy notes!
